Sad news– Sharada – who worked for us at Bandhini for a few years has passed away at age 25. She became ill on Friday night with meningitis and died at around noon on Saturday. We are very sad for her Dad and sisters – as they only lost their mum and my friend Hazel to breast cancer 6 years ago. A sweet girl – pic attached featured in our Winter 05 catalog.

I was in Brisbane on the weekend after my niece's wedding, having breakfast with the family. . . . quite interested to read the "Courier Mail" so I was looking in the property section to see if any of our cushions are in there. I spotted one of my cushions on Page 4 in the article by The Insider entitled "Where the Mo...ney Goes - The DIY Traps" and then realised, "hang on that's my bedroom!" Photo by Luke Marsden. It's in the attached scan.

Regeneration

Throwing open its doors to celebrate the glorious surroundings, this home's simple yet elegant mood reflects the owners' fuss-free lifestyle

Guest pavilion Homeowners Tai and Andrew, the founders of Bandhini Design, are never short of eager guests at their home in the Gold Coast Hinterland, with lucky visitors accommodated in their own freestanding pavilion, which offers space and privacy as well as lush garden views. “We use it too, every day,” says Tai. “The lounge room has become our reading and music room. Andrew plays his guitar in there.” On balmy evenings, they peel back the sliding doors and curl up on the crisp, white Italian linen sofa from Lounge in Melbourne.

Tai Schaffler

Textiles Designer

IT was the natural textures and tones of Tai Schaffler’s soft furnishings that attracted topend homes stores when Schaffler’s Bandhini brand launched its first collection in 1994.

“It was all jute, natural fibres and very environment-conscious, and interior designers loved it because it was new and different and earthy,” Schaffler recalls.

Today, Bandhini (bandhini.com.au) is a leading brand in bedding, cushions and throws, and is expanding to the UK and US.

Why soft furnishings?

My love of textiles I owe to my grandmother, who was a very elegant woman with a beautiful home. She came from a long line of tailors and could put her hand to anything, from crochet to embroidery and beautiful linens.

I don’t have the technical ability but I was surrounded by beautiful fabrics as a child and inherited the eye.
